an exhibition by Patricia fraser
Last year we hosted Flourish, a solo show by Patricia Fraser, where she abandoned the safety of her interior-themed work in favour of exploring wild, lush 'foliage-scapes'. For her new September show, Fraser is continuing this exploration, although now it is the internal and intimate edens from her childhood that are captured on her canvases. Moving further away from traditional representation, Fraser's almost abstract brush strokes are even more emotionally-charged and are imbued with an authentic, emotional response to these untainted memories. She merges the past with the now, through still-life works which have references to her past. Potted plants act as biographical chapters in the greenhouse that symbolically houses these memories. Remerge is an exhibition concerned about the then and the now, light and dark; and how these contrasting elements meet together.
